Even if you're not sure you're ready. Even if it feels a little early. This isn't about demanding. It's about starting a strategic, collaborative conversation.
๐ง๐ฟ๐ ๐๐ต๐ถ๐ ๐๐ฐ๐ฟ๐ถ๐ฝ๐: "I'd like to discuss being considered for promotion to [level] this cycle. Based on my work on [specific projects/impact], I believe I'm ready for the next level. What are your thoughts, and what would I need to demonstrate to make this happen?"
๐ฅ๐ฒ๐บ๐ฒ๐บ๐ฏ๐ฒ๐ฟ: approach the conversation with curiosity; donโt pressure or hassle your manager for a promotion. A promotion conversation should a collaboration between you both over a longer period of time.
๐๐ผ๐ ๐ฎ ๐ฌ๐๐ฆ? Donโt celebrate yet. Ask how you can help your manager prepare the best promotion case for you. They will appreciate the help and partnership in what is a tedious process in most companies. This way, they will also be able to represent you in the best possible way.
